Paris in a new light.

Yo. I'm just really pumped right now. You know when you watch a movie and are still in the movie mindset that has developed. You think you are still in the movie to a degree or that the movie is all that matters? Well, I'm not there, I'm a step back into reality, but the problem is that reality is worse, in a way.

(Nothing big about my day. it was good and all that. I like being on time. Hiphop abs family bonding. Margarine saturated potatoes. Oh, and watching the stars for half an hour at 1am. I saw three real shooting stars (I also thought there would be no airplanes so far North at that time. >.>))

So, we just watched a movie. The title, 'Taken'. Main actor, Liam Neeson. He's pretty much awesome. We watched another one of his movies just last week. Anyways the movie is about a father who used to work for the government in a crazy 'spy-like skill set, but for good not evil' kinda way. Anyways, he is divorced and he has given up quite a lot to be where his daughter is because he missed out on a lot of her life while he had that job. Daughter goes to Paris and yatta yatta yatta she is kidnapped and sold into the human sex trafficking 'business'. Liam Neeson, of course, would not stand by and let this happen, however, so a lot of explosions, awesome action scenes, detective work, cunning, skill and dead Albanians later and it's a bitter sweet ending. She's fine (as far as we can see), but the reality hits us.

This is a real problem in the world, yo.

People treated as property.
People stolen, controlled, drugged, bought, sold, used.
People losing their humanity.

In the movie the French government turns a blind eye to this, for a price.

It's terrible.

I don't know very much right now, but believe me in a few months I will. It's been planned for a while. In January Campus for Christ at Carleton and uOttawa (and probably other campuses) in conjunction with other campus clubs and activist groups, will be raising awareness about these issues, asking questions to students and just bringing the reality closer to home.

I mean, when it doesn't affect you, it's less of a thought in your head and more of a concept on paper.

What does it mean to be human? What does it mean to have freedom? What does it mean that there are people out there participating in this? How can there be more slaves now then there ever have been?

I'm very thankful to be where I am. Safe, sheltered, provided for, loved, free, with an income, with an education, etc. But should we sit here and do nothing about these injustices?

Some Verses:
"Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? ... But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Rom 6:16, 22-23

"In most solemn truth I tell you," replied Jesus, "that every one who commits sin is the slave of sin." John 8:34

"God demonstrates his love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Rom 5:8

"Were you a slave when God called you? Let not that weigh on your mind. And yet if you can get your freedom, take advantage of the opportunity." 1 Cor 7:21

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16

"Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." John 17:3

"Yet to all that received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." John 1:12

"Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir also through God's own act." Gal 4:7

"Now a slave does not remain permanently in his master's house, but a son does." John 8:35

Ya. We were all slaves to our sin, but God set us free and adopted us as children into his household through the blood of his son into the freedom of eternal life with Him, if we choose to accept it.

Talk to you later!

PS. Concordance FTW.
