Dumplings and Lao Gan Ma and Legalism
I've been doing a bunch of things recently. haha
I'd been watching a whole lot of Youtube and playing games on my phone. Like, a lot. Then my friend who sings karaoke alllllllll the time said he was giving it up for lent. And I was like, man. Maybe I should give up aimlessly watching youtube and playing cellphone game apps for lent. However, I feel like I don't really want to do anything. haha. Like what else can I do when I'm at home? So, being fairly legalistic, I'm not spending time on youtube unless it is a single video that someone sends me or a youtube video that isn't on youtube. And games that aren't on my cell phone. haha
So I, after not listening to everyone on youtube telling me to, finally tried playing Undertale, which is an Indie PC game. It's like 10$, but I had become reeeeeeally curious and 10$ isn't bad. And let me tell you. Undertale is an AMAZING game! Like, I cannot say how great the writing and game mechanics are! I don't want to spoil anything, so just play it. haha. The attack, defense, and even level up mechanics are all so interesting and each enemy is different! =D It took me just under 400 minutes to beat the game, so not a whole lot of time. But it was AMAZINGGGGGGGGG! Undertale.com or on steam. 10$. Sooooooo good. Totally worth it! And I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will probably talk about it at some time later.
In line with that legalism, I've also been watching a lot more anime than before. haha. And Adventure Time season 7, which I hadn't realized had come out yet. Also really good. Like, the first more than 2 episode arc and it was great. haha.
The other week my housemates made dumplings. Like, a lot of dumplings. I asked one of them why the other two were making dumplings (it had been like 3 hours of chopping and mixing stuff) and he said it was because they had a bunch of midterms coming up so they had to make it that night. > . >. And my room is beside the kitchen (with a window) so they needed to stop making dumplings. So I asked if I could help. It was now 10 at this point. So we started putting the dumpling filling in dumpling wrappers. It was a huge bowl of filling. I asked how many it would make and he said like 400. > . > I wanted to sleep. So I helped and in 45 minutes of peeling wrappers and wetting the edges and putting filling in and crinkling the edges, we were out of wrapper. Only like 100 though. So we were done for the night. They would get more the next day, when I went to sleep early... haha.
So today I made some food. Pork, cabbage, onions, garlic, ginger, 5 spice blend, soy sauce, some vinegar. All the ingredients from the dumpling filling, but cut less thinly. So more stir-fry style to put on rice. And then I remembered!! =D Lao Gan Ma! One of my housemates had made me some food a month ago or so and gave me some of the Lao Gan Ma chilli stuff. So I borrowed some. Fermented Black Bean with Chilli is soooooooooo goooooooood. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Ya. Random. I'm trying to get everyone I know to play Undertale so I can talk about it. haha

PS. OH! Also this new anime named Erased! It's soooooooooo goooooooooood! I've been watching it every week at a friend's house after P2C weekly meeting. So good. haha

Sharing a Kitchen
Yo,
Random thought. I was thinking about food because I was having a snack and it reminded me of a former housemate who often ate similarly. The thought was, although I don't remember all of the specifics of many of the conversations I had with my housemates over the years, I remember the foods they ate quite clearly.
In first year I had 4 housemates. One ate frozen raspberries, lots of chicken breasts, plantains, chickpeas, and protein shakes all the time. Another often ate the food I made him or that we made together (he taught me to grate my carrots), ate out, or ate food his parents gave him. A third had heart-shaped toast on his birthday, had kraft dinner with hotdogs the first day I moved in (this is where I learned it from), and had the sweet chilli chicken sauce. The last also had the KD, but I don't remember too many of his meals... One time a friend came over and we ate piles of chicken nuggets from McDonald's. Haha
In second year I had 4 different housemates. One ate hagelslag, had cereal every morning, brewed his own beers, and cooked delicious pasta. Another had Korean food from his parents (seaweed soup, kimchi, etc.), cooked a really garlicky pasta once, and can really chow down on KBBQ. Haha. The third grew a liking for onions, ate spam regularly, made great garlic and steamed bok choy, and regularly ate steak and white rice. The last would never microwave a plastic container, loved Pirate cookies (where I discovered them), ate sky flakes all the time, and often let vegetables go bad in the fridge.
In third/fourth year I had 2 housemates. The one almost never cooked. Nearly never. He would mostly eat KFC and Swiss Chalet and Pizza Pizza. He did however also make hamburgers. He always had random candies or sweets and his favourite were Hersey's hugs kept chilled in the fridge. Oh. And he always had orange juice in the fridge. Maybe drank 4L each week. The other housemate regularly cooked fish and had rice with it. He also would marinate cut meat and cook it. He used sesame oil and always had bananas in his room.
This year I have three housemates. One is just learning how to cook things. He has a penchant for hot sauces, death sauces as we call them. His most common meals are vermicelli noodles with chicken, carrots, and frozen vegetables; kraft dinner with frozen vegetables; and frozen pizzas. He almost never thaws food before cooking it and usually freezes leftovers. The second housemate is often too busy with phone calls to stop and cook. He has often burnt grilled cheese, and puréed scrambled eggs, and often leaves things cooking while he walks away. He enjoys pasta, cheese sandwiches, and boiling eggs. The last is very particular. He mostly gets groceries from Costco and has dinner on average at 10 pm. He often cooks chilli, fish, and stir fry. All accompanied with white rice. He frequently drinks milk even without food. And uses many spices when preparing fish.
I've also had a bunch of housemates on mission trips and stuff, but I won't get too into that. One guy loved choco pies, couldn't eat duck, and disliked durian. Another guy ate like 3 eggs each breakfast and hated carbs. Another loved this one brand of orange juice.
It's pretty funny to think about how they each ate. Needless to say there were always wars regarding dirty dishes. That will never change with a dish washer or without.
I wonder how people remember my cooking? Haha

Thunder Storms and Pasta
Yesterday started off with me waking up at 5 am. Guess why? Thunderstorm! Yay! But the coolest thing was that the power was out and that the storm was practically directly above us (which I later realized isn't as cool as I thought, or maybe it is..?)!!!! So, it was just like nonstop flashes of light outside my window! You couldn't see the lightning, just the light, rain was pouring, all my housemates were awake (RL was at his parents) and JR ran outside... lol... After about half an hour the lights turned back on and I realized how silent and dark it was a moment earlier. I mean, now there were all these little things buzzing and a bunch of small flashing lights and ya... I went back to sleep, but kept my phone on to wake me up. I later read a facebook status "Somebody must have been playing Song of Storms over and over last night..." lol.
I woke up at like 9:30 and just lay in bed until 10. I just didn't want to do any work. I still don't, but yesterday was my last day before my week of exams started, so I should have started the cramming.
At 10 I talked with my EAP support coach. He doesn't like how I don't really answer questions.
I then had breakfast/lunch and watched anime.
I then wasted like an hour and a half drawing a diagram to represent my support raising for project. I drew block letters of EAP on graph paper with each block being 50$ I need to raise. It took me a long time to figure out how big to draw the letters and then to colour it in with the support I have so far, colour coded to each person, and then I accidentally did it wrong and I admit it was a huge waste of time.
I knew I should have been cramming for my CHEM exam today, but no... I kept wasting time.
I studied for a couple hours while playing songs by Two Door Cinema Club over and over and over again and then I ran off to my new house to have a meal with my new housemates. I saw CL and MC on the bus.
There was a lot of raised voices at my new house, mostly caused by me and the whole 'splitting a room in half' business and how that effects the rent. It seems that DK, CW and JS 'debate' quite a bit. In any case, CW prepared a pasta meal for us and we all had some with light dinner conversation. Following that we had a 'house meeting' to address issues with common areas and chores and just things in general. The last topic raised was really awkward. It was DK bringing up the fact that we don't tell each other that we love each other as much as we should. He argued that as Christians we should be more loving because we know a bit more about real love through Jesus among other reasons. The most awkward point (debatably) was when he said he could easily write more about what makes each of us special then he can for a school paper.
They tried wrapping up the meeting quickly so that I could go home and study, but the things I saw were that a) they do love each other, b) they pray with each other, c) they don't hold back anything from being discussed. These are all things I wish I saw more of at my house. I have yet to see a couple of my housemates pray.
Ya, when I got home I watched a couple episodes of Modern Family with everyone. It's a good show that always has a moral, warm and fuzzy ending.
Ya. So I wasted all of yesterday. Then this morning I woke up at 6:50 and did everything quickly so that I could go and then I decide to clean out my closet. >.> Ya. Wasted a half hour making a pile of clothes I don't want to / havn't been wearing that I can get rid of because I really have only been wearing like 8 shirts and there were like 25-30 in my closet. The first step in moving is to get rid of everything that is useless to you.
Ya. CHEM exam asian fail. Probably.

PS. I started moving yesterday. Even though I only moved one thing and I never use them. lol.
