"AL, today I don't have a girlfriend, but I learned how to make a fennel salad, so maybe I can use it as bait or something..? Unless I eat it. I already ate it... Time for Plan B."
So, ya. There are a number of things I'd like to talk about today:
1. Fennel Salad
2. Cooking
3. "We're sold out..."
It is very possible I may end up talking about something else, but I want to at least get these three.
So, today I was at work (I just lost the game... As I am typing this. (Not at work...)) and all I could think about once I got there and saw the one, last box of strawberries was that I'd be saying "We're sold out" all night long... So the official count for today's shift is... 12. My shift started at 4 and I left at about 10:10. Each time I said it I recorded the time and object sold out. The following is the collected data.
4:07 - strawberries
4:42 - strawberries
5:12 - strawberries/raspberries/blueberries
5:46 - strawberries
5:48 - strawberries
6:12 - strawberries
6:25 - strawberries
7:03 - hot dog buns..?
7:35 - strawberries
7:42 - blueberries/raspberries
9:55 - raspberries
10:07 - asparagus
I was going to do data analysis, but its 12:14am...
The hot dog buns was odd.
Anyways. ya. data analysis later, maybe.
So, I was at work. Some lady comes over and asks me to cut off the fennel stalks from the bulb. This is a common idea. It fits into bags better without the stalk, same thing with carrots. So, ya... I took a bite of the fennel stalk because I'd never had fennel. It was like celery, but licorice flavour. I swore I'd buy some later.
So, I was cleaning up at like 9:30 and realized I didn't want a plain fennel salad and didn't know what to do. I texted JS and my brother about this problem. JS thought I was drunk. My brother reponded "-_-". lol. nice replies eh..? but I realized that I only ask crazy questions to people like them. xP.
Anyways, one of the main reasons why I was going to buy it was that I hadn't payed to bite that stalk earlier, but also that fennel is often used in cooking shows and I've never had it (probably because my family doesn't like licorice...) So, I was thinking of what else I should buy to go with the fennel, but I don't know anything about cooking... xP. So, I bought two bulbs of fennel, a lime, and a bit of ginger root. I got the lime and ginger because they are cliched ingredients, hehe.
So, ya. When I got home I googled "fennel lime ginger salad" to get nothing useful.
I then googled "fennel salad." This resulted in many orange viniagrette fennel salads and many apple fennel salads.
In the end, I made an apple fennel salad with ginger lime dressing. (Will post picture later)
Ingredients:
2 fennel bulbs, core and stalks removed, sliced thinly
some fennel leaves mixed in and as garnish
1 crispin apple (only type in my house at the time) cored and thinly sliced
some ginger finely chopped
juice of 1 lime
lime zest both mixed and as garnish
splash of olive oil
fresh cracked pepper
sea salt
some honey
I think the proportions may have been a bit off, but it was tasty. xP. It was also very fun and random.
So, ya. I really like cooking, but I don't know how to. If I had taken cooking in grade 9 and / or food sciences in grade 12, I may have seriously considered going to a cooking school. I feel like it would be so awesome, but at the same time I don't think it would be a job, more like a hobby.
Everytime I'm at work I think of when I'm older and shop for myself. I'm looking forward to like planning out meals and shopping for all of the ingredients and later cooking them at home into a tasty meal. Like, I kinda want to move out next year, even for just a month or something, maybe move in with CW or JS for a couple weeks...?

You could move into our living room... We will make a wall for you.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, that sounds like a tasty salad. If you become a good cook, you will make you wife happy one day.
xP
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty tasty. lol. What is a degree in Biochem going to get me..?
I think I'll take some random cooking class too..? Like outside of school..?
Whatever. It will work out either way.
