So, that was interesting.
My first time as a visitor to a church service, like, knowing no one to begin with. Hmmmmmmm...
I went to the Saskatoon Evangelical Free Church. Took a bus 50 minutes west because it is part of the Evangelical Free Church of Canada (EFCC) which OCBC is also part of.
Lots of similarities. 'Sunday school for all ages' starting at 9:30. Service at 11. I ended up in the highschool class since adult sunday school isn't happening right now. We had a good Biblical talk about the woman who had bleeding, but was healed when she touched Jesus. About how she was considered unclean and she needed to go against the crowds to get to Him. Good talk, but the only students were these two sisters who have sibling issues. Lol. So there was a lot of distractions too. Lol Down the hall I heard some kids singing 'My God is so BIG so strong and so mighty there's nothing my God cannot do, FOR YOU!' Lol.
I met a few guys and service began. Just a piano and three vocalists singing hymns. It was good. There was communion, a storytelling time with the kids and they gave all the mom's flowers, and then they had a guest speaker who used to be their youth pastor. He is director at a Bible Camp now and came to give a short message on Discipleship.
I think it is a good church. There was even a short greeting time, but I think the demographics mqy be slightly off. If I was a young adult with my first child I'd fit in perfectly. But there's this gap between 18-25 with only a couple people recently graduated. There are tons of kids and a whole bunch of adults and seniors, but not really anyone my age.
It also appeared that the only ministries during the week were for women, moms, and youth.
This in no way disqualifies the church from my selection. The people were all very nice. I do think I will look around a bit more.
I'm going to a P2C Bible study on Tuesday evening. I hope the guys there can point me in the right direction. One of the guys I talked to after church suggested a couple with more young adults. I think I will also check out the one just down the street.
But who knows. I'm gonna keep praying about it.
