Go and Send

It's kinda weird, you know, having a job and being able to spend money.

But it's also awesome.

I've been reading the Gospel of Mark lately and the end of chapter 12 had the story of the poor widow who gave all she had. And in 13 Jesus talks about the end times. I know very little about the end times, but the part I do know for sure is that the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross for our sin, that and so much more which make up the good news; the gospel will go to the entire world, every tribe, nation, tongue and people group.

It's awesome because I can be part of not only going to the world, not only welcoming the world, but mobilizing and sending as well.

To be able to reach out to the world here or there, while also inspiring others to go by sharing what I have seen God do, as well as being able to support them in prayer and financially.

I've been able to skype or meet up with a few of my friends who are going to be spending the next year over seas or in Canada working with P2C and it's sweet. xP

When You Forget to Denature

Hey guys,

Another long day at work followed by time at the gym.

I invited a couple friends to play badminton tomorrow. I actually can't wait now. After getting to talk to BL about Bridges I am really excited for this summer. xP

Time just flies.

but I guess I've only been home for 4 hours. But still I feel like there should be more time between getting home and sleeping.

I got to spend a couple hours with one of the post-docs in the lab today. We were collecting leaf tissue samples and then extracting and quantifying the DNA. xP  He's pretty funny. Only been out of China for a few months now and straight into a research position. The sudden shift in vocabulary would kill me. >.<

Climb a Mountain

Hey guys,

today was boring a bit. I had fire extinguisher training, did a PCR, lunch, SSR plate, planted some wheat, some cleaning. Then me and DH went to the gym and was on the treadmill for a good half hour. lol.

I got to talk with my bro BL. Funny thing: we haven't legit talked in two years. lol. From my last conversation with him I thought he was way more Chinese. lolllll. It was good to catch up and just chill. Skype is starting to win me over more and more. lol I gotta start making some more skype calls that aren't just business.

Hoping to play badminton Friday after work with coworkers and/or new friends.

I Need More Protein

Hey,

so I didn't really explain too much about the camping trip did I?

It ended up just being me, FB, and his girlfriend. Thought it might be awkward, but it was sweet.

Her family is Christian, so she has heard a lot of the gospel and everything, but has also seen a bunch of the bad side of Christians (cause they are still just people and make mistakes and are stupid sometimes). FB has only seen the judgmental side of Christian parents with a daughter dating a non-Christian, so his opinion wasn't great.

So this weekend was sweet. I got to know both of them a lot. Got to hear of her good memories as well as difficulties, and FB asked me a lot of questions which I got to just answer honestly. xP.

By the way, Christian Mingle commercials? So annoying. Just saying.

So, throughout the weekend I think I really was given the opportunity to build friendships with both of them and be real about my faith.

Plus! Bonus! I got to meet like 12 Chinese international students! We borrowed fishing rods from them and I got to meet up with the guy who is studying biochemistry today. xP. We kinda lost a part of one fishing rod... but he didn't care, and asked if I had had lunch yet. Nope! So we went downstairs to the food court and we talked for the whole lunch hour. xP Sweeet.

Gym after work again. So sore.

Oh. Our supervisor was sick, so we didn't have much to do, but we also had a sweet tour of the NRC building and all the cool equipment. xP

Anyways, gotta sleep.

Palm Bay (Camping Day 2)

Yo yo yo.

I am not drunk. Definitely not.

Today was great. Sleep was not. Lolll. I did not plan for a cold night and I was really cold. Lol... Like I barely slept for the first couple hours, then was woken up not too many hours in, got a towel for a blanket, but the next time I woke up it was so bright and cold that I just woke up and made the fire. Lol.

Oatmeal. So good.

Beach. Mediocre. Water was freeeeeezing so we really didn't go in much.

Lunch.

Fishing!! =D Ticks. Broken rod. No fish. But it was very relaxing and sweet learning how to cast the fly fishing tackle.

We went back and chilled.

Dinner.

More chilling.

Today was extra sweet though because I got to have good conversations with both of them, together and apart. Largely the conversations were about relationships. Christian mingle... But ya, good times. We played a game of 'Never have I ever' with alcohol. Lol. First drinking game. Lol.

But ya, I think this weekend has been awesome. I got to know them a lot, they got to know me a lot, and I got connections to the group of International Chinese students. XP.

God is so good.

C-A-M-P-F-I-R-E-S-O-N-G Song (Camping Day 1)

Hey!

So right now I'm sitting by the camp fire. Today was pretty sweet. I mean, I didn't do too much this morning. But now we've been out here camping all day.

Started kinda interesting. When we got here our reserved site was being used to cook a lunch. There was like 8 Chinese international students. So we asked them what was up. They were just there for the day and our site was empty. They said they would move, so we went for a walk over to the main beach area. It was a long path. Lol.

I've kinda been camera happy all day. Saskatoon is like my first chance to play with the camera my parenta got me for Christmas. I think I took like 100 pictures just today.

We got back and they were still kinda there. We went to get the car and some fire wood. When we drove over they had nearly all moved. One guy was trying to back out in his car and was like getting stuck in the sand. So I went to help push. It seems he had a parking brake on or something. Lol.

We had lunch then started setting up camp. FB and J(?) had bought a tent for themselves, so I was borowing from AS. He gave me a 6 person tent! LOL. So legit I set it all up and it takes half the camp site.

The Chinese students went fishing. They didn't really know how to get their rods setup right, so they asked us for help; us being white Canadians who have obviously been fishing. Lol Poor assumption. I found out he was here studying Biochem. =D I wanted to be his friend. Lol

We really didn't do that much. Just talking and stuff. When they got back I asked if we could borrow some rods. It was kinda like East Asia project. Lol. We got to borrow some, exchanged numbers, I took their pictures, learned a bit more about their group (they live near me. XP), and said goodbye. I look forward to meeting up with the one guy and maybe inviting the whole group to a P2C international weekly meeting thing sometime.

Yeah. Sunset. More talking. I got to share about traveling on missions trips and VBS and stuff. FB is a little quiet. I know a lot more about both their families now. Lol.

Ya. Today was cool. Ttyl.

Gotta Catch 'Em All..?

Yo,

so, I was kinda wasting time on facebook. My friend NYC had discovered this site:  http://pokemon.alexonsager.net/. And so it began.

On the site it has a pokémon fusion generator for, like most of the first 150. It is way too much fun to play with. It pretty much takes the face and colour scheme of one pokémon and pastes it onto another. Kaktortle looks so cool. lol

Below are some of the ones I found amusing. Dosey is so hilarious. It reminds me of something, but I can't figure out what.

It wouldn't ever make sense for Pokémon to introduce fusions, but if they did, catching them all would become impossible.

Anyways,

Ttyl.

D.Fa

PS. can you  guess what each fusion is made of? =D (It's name kinda gives it away.)
PPS. w00t! Senegal and Serbia!

Camping

Yo.

So, I don't know what I am thinking. lol.

This long weekend I'm going camping with FB and his girlfriend.

Could be awkward.

Could be a great time to get to know them both a lot better.

I don't want to be judgmental. I just want to share Christ with them; share life, share God's love, share hope.

Just went to the store with them and got supplies.

So, ya. Gonna be gone for a couple days.

Long Weekend? / New York (GHT13 Day 8)

Hey.

I really need to blog earlier. By this time (10:30-11pm) I am just brain dead.

Honestly. I have no thoughts right now. Gonna go camping this weekend apparently. Should be a great time.

One thing I thought earlier was about the long weekend. It was along the lines of 'wait. what holiday is it again?' I actually haven't done anything about Victoria day in a few years considering how much I have been out of the country...

Holidays like this seem needless to me, oh well, no work on Monday. =D

That is all. Enjoy more Haiti blog posts. lol

"Feb 24 ~ 12:30 AM

Yo. Today was long. We are not in Canada right now. After sleeping in until 6 we got up, had a good chunk of prayer time, breakfast, signed encourage cards and packed. I played with the puppies one last time then we got in the bus back to the airport in Port au Prince. Long bumpy hot bus ride later we were there and JW, MC, JS, and JM weren't coming with the rest of us to New York, so we had said goodbye. Guess what, 3 hour delay, which meant missing our later flight to Montreal, so we are staying overnight in New York. Free accommodations. I really wanted to get back to church. I really want AW to see my hair. lol. I miss him. But ya, this should last long enough. No! Darn it. I'm not going to church next week... Retreat. Oh well. I do not care that I have less time to do homework tomorrow. Haha, I hope I get NSERC! I hope I didn't miss an interview... I forgot to autoreply email setup.

Anyways, gonna sleep with a blanket and giant comfy bed now. lol.

The others aren't at our hotel so we said goodbye and got on the hotel shuttle bus.

When'd That Happen?

Yo.

I've been reading a book recently called "God Space". It's been kinda a cliff-hanger and bummer so far. lol. Just telling me what I'm not doing right and telling me 'oh, we'll discuss that in later chapters'... >.>

So, here's one thing I am not good at. It came up today in chapter 3 which was all about noticing. It suggested watching a video, here: sermonspice.com/product/14972/get-service

The video explains greatly what the chapter was talking about. Simply by noticing things about people great conversations can happen with anyone, but we can be so self-centered and distracted and ignore these things we notice and so never start that conversation.

That's what I suck at. Not an inability to noticing, but an inability to act on it. And that is what is the worst. Knowing God has pointed something out to you, someone to talk to and share with, something I should be doing, but I have more important things to do or am scared or think it will be awkward.

Deal with it, D.Fa.

So, gotta press on and fight the good fight by the Spirit the whole way.

Ps. Even more sore today, and then we went to the gym again. Gonna die. lol.

P2C this Summer / Why I Was There (GHT13 Day 7)

Yo.

I feel like I had something awesome to talk about earlier. o.O

Oh well. lol.

I got to meet up with LN in person finally, and met a guy from P2C who's applying to go on a Project with GAiN in August. Gonna be doing Bible studies together. Should be sweet.

Oh, I never finished my Haiti blog posts did I? <: p="">
"Feb 22 ~ 9:30?? PM

Yo today was pretty great. First I woke up early and needed to figure out deovs. The stars were like so many and so bright and the lights turned on... Oh well, I needed to focus so I got to finding a verse or two, but ended up flipping through like my whole Bible. I'm really bad at doing short things though. I found like a million verse about working for God, not our own ambition, but I needed to shorten.

Turned out really well apparently. Where your treasures are, there your heart will be also.

Work waa really hard today but a lot of fun. Jackhammering a wall for 5 hours. Haha. Then lunch + not work. We were not officially working in the afternoon today. I ended up talking to this teacher at the orphanage. It was a really weird situation. I was speaking French, he was speaking English, and it was basically like he was sharing the gospel with me and really emphasizing the importance of thanking God for our salvation in praise, studying, prayer, and teaching others about God. The conversation went on for litterally two or three hours. It was awesome. I really needed it. It was seriously like this is why I was in Haiti, to be rebuked in love and encouraged to a greater love of Christ.

Yo, so today I biked to work! >.> It's pretty far... At least for now, once I get more used to biking for 15-20 minutes I'll be okay.

SECF

So, that was interesting.

My first time as a visitor to a church service, like, knowing no one to begin with. Hmmmmmmm...

I went to the Saskatoon Evangelical Free Church. Took a bus 50 minutes west because it is part of the Evangelical Free Church of Canada (EFCC) which OCBC is also part of.

Lots of similarities. 'Sunday school for all ages' starting at 9:30. Service at 11. I ended up in the highschool class since adult sunday school isn't happening right now. We had a good Biblical talk about the woman who had bleeding, but was healed when she touched Jesus. About how she was considered unclean and she needed to go against the crowds to get to Him. Good talk, but the only students were these two sisters who have sibling issues. Lol. So there was a lot of distractions too. Lol Down the hall I heard some kids singing 'My God is so BIG so strong and so mighty there's nothing my God cannot do, FOR YOU!' Lol.

I met a few guys and service began. Just a piano and three vocalists singing hymns. It was good. There was communion, a storytelling time with the kids and they gave all the mom's flowers, and then they had a guest speaker who used to be their youth pastor. He is director at a Bible Camp now and came to give a short message on Discipleship.

I think it is a good church. There was even a short greeting time, but I think the demographics mqy be slightly off. If I was a young adult with my first child I'd fit in perfectly. But there's this gap between 18-25 with only a couple people recently graduated. There are tons of kids and a whole bunch of adults and seniors, but not really anyone my age.

It also appeared that the only ministries during the week were for women, moms, and youth.

This in no way disqualifies the church from my selection. The people were all very nice. I do think I will look around a bit more.

I'm going to a P2C Bible study on Tuesday evening. I hope the guys there can point me in the right direction. One of the guys I talked to after church suggested a couple with more young adults. I think I will also check out the one just down the street.

But who knows. I'm gonna keep praying about it.

Random Thoughts

Hey!

Today was less productive than I had hoped, but still a bunch happened. lol

I kinda ended up on facebook most of the morning and afternoon. It just happens that way. lol.

But I ended up getting a bike. lol.

I don't know which church to go to first. The one that might be the most similar is an hour by bus away. >.< And there's a whole bunch of churches closer. >.>

I almost went to a P2C Bible study tonight. I biked all the way to campus then was told it was actually on Tuesday. >.< But I got to figure out how the locked bike area at work works, see more of the campus, ride by the river at sunset, and play a game of 'Hey Cow!!' by the dairy research area. lol.

But ya, I really want to get connected to a church with brothers and sisters that can encourage one another and point each other back to Christ.

Like, this is the first time I have actually been like away from the people I know and the accountability. I don't really know anyone here and everyone I have met at work isn't Christian. It's like my chance to stop following God and do what my flesh wants cause I have no accountability and a house all to myself.

But I don't want that.

I want this time to be even better than the last times. I want to really seek God with all my heart. I want to be a light in my workplace. I want to seek His will for my future.

So screw the flesh. lol

Umm, ttyl? lol.

Hanging Out

Hey! So today I was a lot more prepared. I had breakfast, made lunch, and got to the bus in time. Funny thing is that my dad woke me up. Lol... After I slept in my dad sent me a text telling me to wake up.

Work was cool. I got to do some actual work today. My project is still not ready, but I got to use the multichannel pipet! =D

We also set up the pots for the wheat we will be planting later and did some various cleaning. Apparently my supervisor is the only force acting to clean the lab in the last 40 years. So today I got to look up the MSDS for a whole range on Chromatographic resins and gels that were like 50 years old so we can safely dispose of them. Lol.

After work we went to a restaurant for dinner. Just me, three other summer students, one of their girlfriends and my supervisor. Lol. It's kinda awkward that our supervisor is trying so hard to get us to know each other and be comfortable here in Saskatoon. Lol. Plus she's at least 8 years older than us. >.>

Hanging out with the guys now.

Day 1

Yo.

Not what I expected.

My boss wears purple pants and was really excited about the half priced Frappiccinos at Starbucks during 'happy hour' and she's pretty forgetful. >.>

But ya, first day of work was sweet. I didn't wake up as early as I wanted to and then RW told me I should be at work for 8 (since I actually didn't know when I was supposed to be there), and I had scheduled to leave at 8, so I got to the bus stop and hoped the next bus would take me there. =D

When I woke up I was kinda in a lot of pain though. Wikipedia really helped. Yes. It did. Yesterday my right tonsil had started really hurting like it never had before and my immediate thought was "this thing is inflamed. It's gonna need to be removed. No. Not now. Not my first week. Well, I did just get my health card reactivated... No. This too will pass." (Ok, I didn't think 'this too will pass') My next thought was "there must be something stuck in it that is causing this." *insert 15 minutes of squeezing my tonsil* "I wonder how bad this really could be. Maybe I don't need it removed... but maybe I Absolutely Have To Have It Removed Before It Explodes!?!" *Google it* *read wiki page* something along the lines of 'often goes away within a week with or without medication'. Yay! Doesn't solve the current problem. >.> *has hot oatmeal and hot water with honey for breakfast then goes to 7/11 to buy sore throat lozenges with cash to get bus fare change*

But ya, work was cool. I think God has really answered a lot of prayer and I see that in many facets of even just today's work. Not only in that I even have this job, but also in the other students working here, my friend who was showing me around, even in the coffee breaks. lol.

Walked home, looked around a bit, got bedding, groceries, a bus pass. Much more prepared for tomorrow.

Saskatoon!

YOOOO!

I'm in Saskatoon! Unbelievable.

So I kinda just got on a plane this morning hoping and praying for the best. lol. Didn't really know what I was doing. lol. Read the Bible, read a couple papers about wheat. Ended up in the Saskatoon airport...

What next?

My phone was about to die. I google mapped where I lived....... 36 minutes away by car..? >.< Way to start the day... Maybe I'll get there before the sun goes down? Do I even have taxi money? I don't have a credit card........

Surprise! AM appears behind me (it was easy to find me since there is currently only one baggage claim / he knew what time I was getting there. lol.)!

And so my tour of Saskatoon began by car. He pretty much showed me the whole city. We had Chinese food for dinner. =D

I met my 'landlord' guy? Kinda is in charge of the whole complex I am in. We played pool after checking out my crazy huge apartment.

Anyways, I should sleep. I have no idea when I am supposed to be at work for tomorrow. lol.........

Procrastinated Anxiety

Why is it that when you think you are all prepared and ready to go that is when fear and unease and everything sets in?

All week I have been itching to leave already, but today I get this weird feeling like I don't want to leave. >.<

Not to mention procrastinating the ledger, update, health card renewal, packing, clean up, reorganizing my room, and a whole bunch of things to today... lol....

*sigh*

We'll be there soon enough. Like really, less than 12 hours and I'll be on my way to Toronto (for the connection to Saskatoon).

I have so little planned, but I know God has great plans lined up. I was talking with RW tonight about her internship with Creative Communications team next year and then we ended up in a really hilarious conversation about idolatry, which was right on the edge of joking and going too far... >.> but ya, wherever God is it's gonna be great. That's just how it works. I don't need to worry about where I am going becase I can trust that God will be doing awesome stuff there whether or not I help, but by helping we can experience Him so much more and so much more deeper. I can't wait for what He has planned.

A Blowing Wind

Yo.

Today was another amazingly awesome day.

It was the last day I get to go to church here in Ottawa. A little sad, but it's also pretty great to have seen them all before going. It was also pretty great to be able to reflect on our new life in Christ. The old is gone, the new has come.

But this weather is awesome too. Lol. Amazingly sunny and warm, the bright blue sky and fluffy white clouds, a cool sweet breeze, the green leaves coming out of the buds casting just enough refreshing shade. *breathe in and sigh* And yet, I am leaving in a matter of days.

Why does summer in Ottawa have to continue to become so appealing to me?

It's kinda gonna suck that I can't be here in person to spend time with my younger brothers, ZL, SC, AW, YD, DL, to name a few. *le sigh*

But I know God has so much planned in Saskatoon.

Why else would a job just fall into my inbox the minute after praying about my highly potential lack of employment these next few months? It's all for His glory. Wherever He sends me.

4.5.13

Medical Institutions.

Ok, so, I don't like dentists that much, I do not like pharmacies, I dislike doctors offices, and I definitely dislike hospitals.

Each of those are for different reasons, but still.

Dentists aren't that bad. I actually really like all the nifty tools and cool things they do. Mouths and teeth are really cool and interesting. This is a valid future career aspiration right here. But this is an exception to the rule. (unless you count vets, then there may be two exceptions to the rules (and I guess I don't dislike orthodontists or optometrists that much. Irrelevant.))

In general, I dislike public medical institutions.

Pharmacies I have a large problem with because I dislike medications and pills and drugs and everything they sell to you to 'make you better.' Before it was just this uneasy superstition that they make them in such a way that you don't quite get all the way better so you have to buy more and keep buying more, or make it slightly addictive to keep you coming back. Anything to make a million dollars off the guy who is dying. But now, in addition to that, in the last couple years I've heard a lot more about how the medical system in Canada looks for a problem and then prescribes the solution, which may or may not treat the problem. That absolutely stinks. And I have definitely seen these happen in my mom's life. Like there's gotta be a problem when the only way you can live is by consuming massive amounts of medical powders in coloured pill form or capsules. >.>... Like I don't even like the idea that people need coffee to wake up in the morning.

Anyways, lol. I dislike doctors offices. All the prodding and cold things and etc. >.> But especially is the shots. I can not stand shots. >.<

Finally, hospitals. I kinda feel like they end up being the place people die... Like 70-90 year-old people who are not in really good health end up here every other week, pretty much until they can't leave then they die. >.> Not really enjoyable. There's just this mood in the air, this stuffiness, the sounds of incomprehensible groaning, the inevitability, no one actually getting better or leaving. >.>

Now, all this is not to say that I don't think people get sick. Viruses exist. Bacteria exist. Injury and wounds and disease exist. And God is our healer. That isn't to say I will to the death avoid these places. God can use doctors and nurses and medicine to heal, not just miraculous healing. I am really glad I got to go to a hospital when I broke my wrist. I am very glad I could take some pills that gave me funny dreams instead of getting malaria. I am very glad that people are willing to take on the years and years of studying and working to become doctors and nurses, especially those who just exude joy to the patients.

But that isn't going to stop me from praying that God would heal, that He would step in and guide the doctors to the real problem, that He would work powerfully and remove the need for prolonged medication, that He would step in and heal my mom.

I praise His name for how my mom has been getting better. And I will continue to pray for her.

I just won't like being in a hospital when I go to see her. lol.

The Score

You know 36-9 would normally be a pretty bad score, eh?

But it's not the score that really matters. lol. And honestly, we did get one inning where we kept them from getting anyone home. AT was really surprised when he found out we had 9 runs. lol.

So, if you couldn't tell we had a softball game this evening. First game in the season. Last game for me in Ottawa. Who knows if there will be games in Saskatoon?

It's really weird that it is Friday already. I mean the week passed by so quickly. What started as a really long and kinda weirdly empty week  has really continued to be just as full as normal. So many things I have to finish up before I go.

Ah. lol. So, in my parents' house there are always leftovers. Always. Always something else that could be eaten. I have never seen our fridge empty. Sure there's 'never anything to eat', but if you look just a little bit harder, there really is. lol. I have been having Nutella and toast with old bread all week and I'm finally nearly done the bread in the fridge. Nearly. To the point where the fridge is actually starting to look empty. I think a fridge should be emptied every few weeks or so, keep things fresh, right? So it's kind alike my job to clean out the fridge. lol.

7 Minutes 'Til Tomorrow. lol.

Yo,

so today was slow? I think I mainly did only a couple things, but I could be wrong.

First I got to shower / breakfast. Whatever.

After that I got to Matthew 4-5. I'm on a summer reading plan with a bunch of people (I think) and so I am taking the initiative to encourage them to do it with me and share thoughts. So each day I am sharing a thought of mine on a facebook group. If you wanna see them you can check them out here: Summer Bible Readings.

Then I got to go see my mom. She is doing a lot better. And the nurse was super hilarious. lol........... Chinese lady. So good.

We ended up playing tennis (me and my bro) at this park near the hospital. Yesterday night we were gonna play at our usual courts, but as we drove up, the club president was there, aka, we can't play without signing up and paying, but I'm gone in a week anyways, and we didn't have money. But this court was public. I think I got sunburned. lol...... But I still got it. =D haha.

Ummm. Pretty much it.

I got to talk to some friends on fb again.

Spending lots of time talking to one  guy in particular. I don't know what to think of our conversations. Kinda plays into another topic I want to think more about "The World Will Hate You". But does that mean you should hate everything about the world? No? Hmmm. Cause I think he was going a little overboard fuming about leaky con and breaking the world record for biggest gathering of people in footy pajamas. That's pretty innocent fun that can easily be used as a chance to get to know someone better. ..?

Hmmmmm.

Always on Project!

Yo.

So I woke up.

I was in bed.

In Ottawa.

It's May isn't it? Why am I here?

I shouldn't be here. I should be somewhere far far away by now. >.<

For the past couple years, few years even, I have not spent summer in Ottawa. I don't intend to be here much longer either. I'll be going to Saskatchewan in a week. But still, like, I've been going on missions trips every year, so it's super weird to me that I am here right now.

But Monday's trip to Montreal felt like I was on a Project for many reasons:
- I was far away
- I was eating food in a food court filled with many people
- I had a friend who was here long term to show us around
- We went onto campus and saw around for a bit
- People  all around were speaking a different language that I had been learning a bit of
- We had a type of tea not common to Ottawa (in this case bubble tea. lol. I got Mango / Coconut. xP)
- I almost ordered food in a different language, one of my friends from Montreal did for us once.

Many other reasons too.

But I am excited for what is going to be happening here in Canada at home and at my work place, and also for all the guys I get to pray for who are going to the world with the message of God's love, justice, and redemption in Christ Jesus.

When did this become a show? When did I have to write excellent posts or none at all? This blog is supposed to just be real. Just be what I am learning, as I am learning it. So, I don't really care if it's a bit messy sometimes; life is messy.

Decided: BEDM. (lol) (Blog post Every Day May!)

I mean God has been doing crazy things recently despite my heart and condition.

The other day I got to go be a tourist around Parliament with SD and AS. I thought we were meeting at 10:30, so I ran out the door to catch the bus, but missed it so I was going to be late, like 10:50. We were actually meeting at 11:30. So I went to the Ridea Food Court to like, spend time with God, read the Bible, etc. I noticed someone I recognized. It was RN who I met on the bus to Toronto last year! We talked a bit. He's gonna go to Carleton next year! =D It was short, but good to catch up. lol

Yesterday I got to go to Montreal. I got to drive (longest highway experience yet) and it was good. It was gonna be me, MC (who I met on the bus to Urbana, who lives in Montreal), and one other guy each. I ended up inviting ZL. He said there was a guy at church who should really come too, so I met and drove YD for three hours yesterday morning. Turned out to be super awesome. YD and I got to have a sweet conversation for like an hour and a bit after dinner. We also all had great conversation over Bible study of 1 Tim, and praising God on the mountain was awesome. His grace is amazing.

I have a lot more to blog about. lol. Like an actual list on my phone.

I really want to spend some time looking into Suffering though before I blog about it, but God has been really working and speaking to me lately about it.

Hubris: Anime and Reality

Back in highschool I remember one time I was doing an audition for a One Act play festival. The audition was a short scene, but also had a form to complete. On it the last question was something along the lines of "If you could be one of the Seven Deadly Sins, which would you be?"

First, the 'Seven Deadly Sins'. What are they? Well, I always think of an anime I watched named 'Full Metal Alchemist'. In it there were a couple brothers who had gone against the rules of alchemy and tried to bring their mom back to life. They created a monster writhing on the ground while also losing a couple limbs, and the other brother their entire body. They were on a quest to get back what was lost. But the 'bad guys' were these guys with crazy powers. Each had been made from a situation like the two brothers had done and they were named after the seven deadly sins. So that's how I always remember them.

Gluttony. Greed. Sloth. Lust. Pride. Wrath. Envy.

Now the anime ended up changing the ending as it caught up to the manga, so there's also a second series that followed the manga to the end 'FMA - Brotherhood', but I'm not talking about anime now. lol

So, point: What was my answer?

I wrote something like 'I would want to be pride because it would be the easiest to hide.'

Little did I realize how prideful that answer was. I don't want others to see me as sinful. I want to be regarded of as positively as possible. To be respected. To be better than others. The actions of lust, gluttony, and wrath are obvious. The lack of action of sloth is also quite evident. The actions caused by greed and envy are a little less obvious, but still not hard to see. But pride. You can hide that. You can appear normal.

In the show (both series) the enemy known as Pride acts as if he was a normal person until the brothers learn too much and he needs to take the fight into his own hands.

But that hubris led to their demise and the brothers win.

---

This is where I am now: when I am struggling with sin (whether lust, sloth, or anything) I take it into my own hands. I think "what can I do about it?" instead of just turning back to our Father in heaven and asking Him "how can I just stop and trust You more?"

I've been trying to serve more on worship team, spend more time with the guys I had been discipling, and just trying to make myself better.

I think largely this is pride.

I've heard multiple times that pride was the source of all sin [whoa now that I think of it, FMA-B storyline!!]. It started with Lucifer wanting to be God and so he rebelled. Next he tempted Adam and Eve saying "when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil". From that first rebellion against God's will and perfect plans the knowledge of evil and rebellion against God has been passed down through all generations and peoples.

But you know it was the fall, we had fallen from the position we held before perfectly made for a perfect place and in perfect relationship with God and now were left to crave and seek after more, seek what only God could provide.

Ultimately nothing of this world can fulfill that craving. He search for the things that feed it and seek more of it, but never are satisfied. In desperation, our last effort is to try to get back to God; religion. The things we can do to make ourselves better, to bridge that gap between us and Him. Maybe if I pray more? Maybe if I read His words more? Maybe if I give to the poor more, sing and play instruments for Him, teach and learn, got to church; do what a Christian does, that gap will narrow?
But that's absolutely not how this works.

"We are all like one who is unclean, all our so-called righteous acts are like a menstrual rag in your sight. We all wither like a leaf; our sins carry us away like the wind." (NET)

Our works; the acts we do to make us feel better than others. Those works are no better than filth. And if we remain in our sin we shall be carried away like the wind to wither and die.

Only by the grace of God, the completely undeserved forgiveness offered by Jesus' death on the cross. God brought this to be, sent His Son to the cross for our sake; because that gap could never be overcome by our means. He overcame it for us and offers forgiveness. Offers life. Offers Himself.

Instead of doing more for the purpose of earning my salvation, I need to do less, trusting in what He has done and reciprocate His love to others; continuing to ask for Him to work in me eachday.

Just a thought.

A Week of Trials

Hey guys!

Sorry about being gone so long. It's been a tough week.

Monday I packed and moved out of my house and back to my parents'. So I've been all over the place.

I had an exam Thursday morning that I had not really been in the class for and had literally a thousand lecture slides to review... So, ya... I crammed all day Wednesday at school and crashed in my house (now without blankets) and went straight to school after waking up. I decided to read the Bible in the Architecture building instead of really cramming anymore in. Wait, this story is from the Saturday morning before. lol. Ahh.... it's been a hard week. I had really been struggling and that day I went there and started to reflect on the Spirit-filled life and really surrendering to God's will and trusting in Him. A friend of a friend walked in after apparently watching Pride and Prejudice all night. >.> Found out she is Christian. lol. Oddly encouraging conversation where she was just like "that's awesome!" lol...

Anyways, Thursday I went straight to school at like 6:30 and met up with my friend I had been studying with all night before. He had not slept... >.> So I finished cramming while he attempted to take naps. We went to the exam and it wasn't that bad. Like our prof makes review questions for each chapter and basically copy and pastes the exact same questions to the exams, so I am very very very grateful for that.

Me and my buddy ended an hour early. We had a lab report due the next day at noon... He had forgotten something at his house and I had a car that day so we drove over to his house and ended up eating ramen for lunch. xP. His house is really cool. lol. He slept on the way and on the way back. The whole time I had been counting down how long we had until our report was due, cause we kinda only had 24 hours from when our exam was supposed to end and the report was likely going to be about 20 pages and we had really not started... >.<

So we got to work. Divided tasks. Found a room to crash for the next 20 hours. Got out the laptops and got to it.

Excruciatingly long day.

Energy drink.

I think it was my first official 'all-nighter' without any sleep working the whole time. My buddy took 'naps' like every hour or so. He was just dead from a week f cramming and not sleeping.

40 pages. Seriously. And what's annoying is that our assumptions were likely not valid... lol. So the majority of the was us explaining why our results are reasonable, but not accurate. lol...

We got it in just in time and I had to do my next thing.

I had been put in charge of leading worship for a YA event for Sunday and needed to select songs to sing billingually with EC. We were going to have a practice at 7pm, so I needed to choose and practice asap. Borrowed my brother's guitar and got it done. EC suggested doing different songs. So I switched it up and needed more practice, but it was good.

Since we had practiced at church I stayed for YF. Pretty cool. lol. I miss YF. lol. So few kids, but they are all legit.

I'll tell you more later.

Suits and Masks

Yo, sorry if this turns into a bit of a rant. haha. You've been warned.

So, I've been wearing dress shirts a lot lately. I don't especially have a problem with this if it's just an untucked dress shirt and jeans. I actually really like the semi-casual look with like a nice dress shirt not tucked in, nice pants and converse sneakers. But what I do have a problem with is like the whole suit and dress, semi-formal idea. The whole thing to me is just so fake.

One of my friends was joking that every time our other friend is wearing a suit he is looking for a woman.

Big problem: when people are wearing a dress and makeup or a suit they are putting on a show, sowing off the best side of themselves. If you get to know only the best of someone and never see the other parts you are going to be so far off when you actually get to a relationship.

You need to get to know the person for who they are, all their strengths and flaws. Not so you can accept all the flaws the way they are forever, but more like have an understanding of where they are weak so you can help each other grow.

But when people put on the suits, when people put on the makeup, when people put up this image of who they are pretending to be, I just can't stand it.

And the whole making connections for the sake of using people...

How in politics when something slips through the cracks of your perfect suit and mask and people hold it against your image for the next few months or years...

Grace.

We aren't perfect. We have problems. We have issues.

Covering them up doesn't help a thing. It's like you killed someone and you bury them. They are still going to be there, but now they are rotting. You can bury it really deep, but it's still there. Justice will come to pass.

Gotta be upfront and just confess and ask for forgiveness and help to change.

*sigh*

Being real is really hard though.

Can We Escape?

Ok. So it's been a long time since I blogged last, like over a week.

Kinda the same reasons as always.

Anyways, good times and bad, but ya.

------
Here's a game: http://www.mofunzone.com/online_games/and_everything_started_to_fall.shtml

It's called "And Everything Started to Fall".

Play it. It takes like 5 minutes. Really. Play it.
-----

We had our P2C year end banquet last Friday which was a lot of fun, got to lead worship on Sunday, had sushi with the servant team on Monday, stayed up all night working on a paper, slept Tuesday, had classes and review tutorials, visited my mom in the hospital.

Stuff happens.

I've got an exam at 9 am on Saturday so I have to cram for that. After that a formal lab report, two exams, going to a conference and I'm off to Saskatoon for the summer to work in a lab, which should be awesome.

But ya, I've been wasting as lot of time lately on facebook, youtube, free apps on my phone...

You play that game yet? I hate spoilers, so you've been warned.

This game is like my life. In the pursuit of moving forward and doing stuff you forget to enjoy the times you have there. The first time I played the game I was just jumping and didn't even realize what was happening in my life until I started drowning in money. Like really. Time starts flying by and you don't realize what is happening until it is too late. God has blessed you with this time, so why are we wasting it?

*sigh*

I just want to escape. lol

Loved

Yo, so, this week has been one of those weeks.

I don't really have that much to do, and so that means I am doing next to nothing and also falling to my struggles and just overall not doing too well, simply because I have free time, which means I waste time, stay up late, sleep in, get bored? There's gotta be a real way to deal with this. I mean, just having free time shouldn't lead to temptation and sin. I need to figure out how to live life when I have free time.

In my hours of wasted time I ended up going from email to youtube subscriptions to vsauce again and onto a DONG (Do Online Now Guys) video and my attention was caught by this game:

http://armorgames.com/play/6086/loved

It's really simple, but powerful. You play the game how you want to play. Multiple times there will be a prompt to do something and you can choose to do it, or not to, and that changes the course of the game and ultimately the ending, but one thing doesn't change. I don't want to spoil it, so go play it now before reading on. It will take probably 10 minutes max. It took me 30 to play twice including one really long part.

I'm really blessed though. Like today was a lab exam for my plant physiology and biochemistry class. I really didn't study much yesterday and I slept in and was going to school at 9 to cram until my lab. Got to school at 9:30, but then a friend attacked me and we talked until my class at 10. Instead of paying attention in class I flipped through the 700 pages of my textbook and found out that MT planned for us to go sharing during discing time, so I asked if he could keep me accountable to study for an hour after my class then we could go sharing for an hour.

So really I had scanned my textbook, but that was about all the review I had since the review session last week. My friend also needed to borrow my laptop for his lab exam at the same time as mine, so I had no laptop to study with. I ended up reading my lab manual for an hour, skipping the last part cause I was bored of it.

We talked for a bit and then went off. We ran into this guy NP. He was pretty cool. Wearing a St. Louis Gretzky jersey and a Blue Jays cap. We got into a good conversation about God's grace and the sinlessness of Christ. Got to walk through our need for a saviour and share a bit about how anger in itself isn't a sin. He was really interested in the conversation, like he had maybe 2 texts a minute for the 25 minutes we talked and he never answered one of them. xP

Then I had the lab exam. Was slightly late, but quite confident in my answers. Got to answer about photosynthesis, the topic of our microbio lab, so it was really easy. I ended up being nearly the first person done.

But ya, I really liked that game. Have you played it yet? No? Go play it. I hate spoilers.......

----------

Ok. Done now? Good. The ending is so good! Whether you followed His prompts or not, He still offers you a chance to come close to Him and experience His love. Even after walking away your entire life, He still gives you that chance. You can continue to walk away, but then you'll never experience Him. Taste and see that He is good, you won't want to walk away anymore. There may be difficult parts, like that part where He asked you to take the road through the spikes, but He is with you and will help you through it.

"I have loved you with an everlasting love"

That's what the Bible says about God's love for the world. So much that even though we went against Him, He was willing to forgive us justly by taking our punishment upon Himself, bearing it all on the cross.

So, ya. That game. So much a reflection of God's love.

Anyways, Ttyl.

Created in His Image

Yo, so when stuff happens I just need to write it down and tell someone. And by doing so, not only do I make my joy complete, I also get to glorify God. So, listen. haha.

I've been having a pretty off day to say the least. Last night I was helping my friend who is a dj and got her back home around 1:30. I was exhausted, but I also saw something I shouldn't have and it really messed me up.

This morning I woke up, made poor decisions and ended up slightly late to church for Good Friday service. It was pretty interesting. I don't think anyone disliked it. haha. A bunch of people were asked last night if they would be willing to go up to the cross and pray near the end of service (he was going to invite everyone to write a prayer on a card and bring it to the cross, but you could also stay at the front and pray) I ended up being nearly last because apparently I write long prayers. lol. But ya, it was good, I got to pray all about this stuff from the morning and I got to make a new Malaysian friend and ya. good times.

I was at my parents' house all day with our new puppy. lol. I got to take him for a 'walk'. lol... Watched the end of Hunger Games finally!

But ya, so I left around 7 and was driving home. Just going over the hill by Confederation Station I saw all this sunshine and awesome picture opportunities behind me and felt the urge to walk back and take pictures. Walking back the sun had set more, so good picture times were done, but I felt I should really find a good place and spend time with God for the rest of the sunset. Usually that would mean at the park, but there were people in my spot, so I thought 'on the otrain?' but nah, it would take forever to get home if I missed the stop, so I chose to go to Heron station.

Anyways, sat down, still kinda annoyed with my actions this morning, but opened the Bible in Job where I was currently reading. I reread chapter 8 then read 9 and 10. Good stuff in there (8:8-10, 9:4-10, and 9:32-35) but the passage that really stuck out to me was 10:8-12.

"Your hands shaped me and made me,
Will you know turn and destroy me?
Remember that you molded me like clay.
Will you now turn me to dust again?
Did you not pour me out like milk
   and curdle me like cheese,
clothe me with skin and flesh
and knit me together with bones and sinews?
You gave me life and showed me kindness,
and in your providence watched over my spirit."

This really stood out to me because of a conversation I had last week at Carleton with a Muslim guy. It was turning into an argument between ZL and him, but after we shook hands and were friendly and everything. Anyways, one thing he said about Qur'anic science was that in the Qur'an it says that in developing fetuses the bones are made before the flesh, which these verses don't exactly agree upon. I had also read a bit of stuff about embryology in the Qur'an before, so when I came to this verse I needed to find out more and googled "islam science embryology" on my phone in the bus station.

I got this website as the top result: http://www.answering-islam.org/Quran/Science/embryo.html

I was fully expecting to get a biased result fully supporting what the Qur'an says, but I was greatly surprised by this website. He was seeking to see what the Qur'an actually says and disputing the idea that 'the Qur'an says a lot about Science way before we knew it' which I have heard a number of times.

Apparently a lot of studies on embryos had been done before the Qur'an was written, and Greek understanding was translated and got to Arabia and even to Muhammed's close friends. A really striking sentence on that page though was that the end of the sura about embryology is accepted as being said by Muhammed's scribe (ie not inspired).

Sura 23:12-14 reads (in my English Qur'an):

"We created man from an essence of clay, then We placed him as a drop of fluid in a safe place, then We developed that drop into a clinging form, and We developed that form into a lump of flesh, and We developed that lump into bones, and clothed the bones with flesh. Then We brought him into being as a new creation glory be to God, the best of creators"

Anyways, you should read that article. It is very well researched.

I'm really glad God speaks in these ways, maybe not as directly as I might hope some times, but still He answers the questions on our hearts and points us back to Himself.

The Smell of Sweat

Hey guys,

Do you know how awkward highschool dances are? No? Than you should work with a DJ for a few weeks. Honestly, it's a hot, stinky mass of gyrating children... There's something wrong with this. This isn't even mentioning the lyrics of the songs they are 'dancing' to. And these aren't even the bad kids, these are like kids who want to be in politics from across Canada. >.>

Anyways, ya. I've had a couple big assignments the last few days as well as my independent project, which is taking way longer than expected, probably at least 5 more hours in the lab next week. It is really fun just working with SP in the lab and getting to know each other a bit better. After the lab today we went and played chess in the library.

I had a massive assignment to do today. I woke up (not as early as I had hoped) and got to work on it. I had spent like 7 hours yesterday working on it trying to get it done before the deadline. I thought it was due today (my lab day), but was apparently due at 11:55 last night. It turned out to be 12 pages long. Somehow I was done most of it by 1 today and submit it from the lab. Again my lab coordinator gave me grace where it wasn't deserved.

This day kinda started really badly, but it really got better in the middle.. I will hopefully tell you more in a few days. xP

Ya. Gonna have to tell DC I can't be her DJ assistant / chauffeur for the summer.

Do It All For His Glory

Yo.

So, today and last night I was away at a retreat in Quebec with some people from church. It was the retreat for our Personal Ministry and Counselling course we were doing, so it was a lot of confession and praying for one another in pairs. It was pretty good I guess. The only thing I really needed to deal with only really came up at the very end.

I have been acting pretty hypocritically recently. Largely driven by pride, but the results were like not doing what God wants me to do and like not sharing my life with my brothers in Christ.

Friday morning I was meeting up with one guy and he was pretty direct about it: 'I don't know anything about you. You never tell me anything about you.'

Bam.

Conviction

So, ya, I really want to seek after God's Kingdom and righteousness first, trusting that He will provide and protect and use this all for His glory. Perfect love, His love, drives out all fear. If our God is for us, who can be against us?

It may be hard sometimes, but I wanna do what He wants me to do; I wanna go where He wants me to go.

Crazy Days

Yo. So today I went to school early, finished an assignment, worked on a lab report through class, had a discing meeting, finished my lab, did more lab work, had a review tutorial, then I was walking home from the train and this weird thought crossed my mind... I don't have anything due tomorrow..? O.O

IMPOSSIBLE!!

So I folded laundry and did the dishes and watched anime and played worship songs on guitar.

Here comes tomorrow!

lol....

So productive. Not.

PS. I'm really excited about the summer right now, and about how all the guys in my DG will grow next year.

Our Hope is in You

Yo! Hey!

Today was another day with another large assignment due in less than 24 hours, but you know, each day isn't the same as the last. There is always the opportunity for greater things to happen.

I started the day with breakfast and the last two chapters of Revelation: the New Jerusalem and the River of Life. So much to look forward to.

Classes. Then we got to start our independant project for Micro. Lots of fun. Haha. A whole lab to ourselves and self-directed work. SP kinda got stuck working with the spinach the whole like 4.5 hours. I really hope that gets faster. We have found ways to speed that up for sure. But ya. Good times.

Ended up in the Hub woking on my paper and had a bit of a conversation with JL about relationships and cooking. I finished my paper and we were gonna meet up with DP at 9 before he goes back to Toronto on Saturday, but this snow stopped him. So I chilled in the Architecture studios a bit. Lol. Some first year art projects are just amazing. Good to talk to PC and JL and everyone. PC has been going to church recently apparently so I was excited to talk with him. I encouaged him to keep working on his project. He said I was really optimistic. I asked a bit about where his hope comes from and he said no where. Christ is where our hope comes from. Praying for him to come to that realization.

Anyways, gonna have dinner and do an assignment before bed.

Monday was a Week Ago

Yo.

So yesterday was Sunday. We had church and for once in a long time we went out for lunch afterwards. Squished 15 of us into a Pho place in China town. Then me, SC, and JC, as well as RV had a homework party in the River Building. I actually did get some work done. At the time it seemed like a lot, but not now... lol.

Today kinda was annoying. I had a bad dream last night and so all day I was being really tempted and just ya, not feeling good. Servant Team was actually fun for once. We had no staff and EE was also not there so me and RM had all the work to do in a short amount of time (since he was late). It was fun actually doing the stuff, not just being there and doing nothing. DG was ok. Kinda weird, but stuff should be happening. YA was good Pastor DB talked about masculinity.

Now I'm home.

Trying to get people to move in downstairs. Looks like RM will be with two of his friends. I really wanted some other Christian guys too, but I guess he'll be ok. lol. I'm really not as open with him as I should be considering he was my DGL in first year and the only other male student leader at the moment... It will be a growing experience.

Anyways, ttyl.

Lack of Sleep

Yo.

I'm a little annoyed right now. But ya, the last couple days did go pretty well.

Thursday I had a lab report due, so I went to school early and ya, worked on it. Afterwards I got to go to a Dialogue Students Association event that my friend had invited me to. There was a rabbi, priest, and imam who shared their thoughts on the theme "the purpose youth in time". I had no idea what they would say. But it was interesting. The priest read the parable of the prodigal son. Which was interesting. I got to talk with a brother and ended up staying at school all night...I had a double lab report due Friday and was out of time.

I never pull all-nighters, nor do I drink energy drinks normally, but I had no real choice at that point. So, I had to. I slept for two half-hour periods. So that day was kinda painful. lol. SC sent me home instead of talking with him cause I needed a shower / breakfast. But I also had to work in the lab and talk with ZL and ya, other stuff to do too. I ended up sleeping in the Tory lobby for an hour an a half that afternoon. Then I went to the Festival of Planning with P2C.

FoP was good. We did a lot of planning. But it was good too. lol. It was definitely awesome to see so many students want to come together and pray and plan for the next year. It's kinda really annoying that I can't be here to be part of it all next year though with co-op and all...

Anyways,

Time With God

Yo.

So this week has been pretty sweet. I am seriously trying to prioritize time with God, so each day breakfast is also Bible time and my days have been pretty awesome.

Yesterday woke up at 6. Had a midterm at 10, but I made sure I had breakfast and time in the Bible. midterm went well, way better than expected. At 1 I had 4 hours of preparing solutions for the MicroBio Independant Project. It was pretty fun. lol. I had a dentist appointment at 6:30 instead of the Unity Worship night at 7, but I got there and the lady looking at my teeth asked me about reading week and I got to tell her about Haiti a bit and found out that there is a couple who travel around to  other countries and remote places to do dental work (I assumed they were missionaries) and then the dentist told me his daughter went to the Dominican to build a school with classmates from her school (All Saints) and another Catholic school in Ottawa.

Today woke up at 6. Lab due at 1. After breakfast went to school and was super productive for some reason. lol. Got to go sharing at 11:30 and had a really good conversation with a guy in the food court. Got to share a bit about science and my faith and ya. cool times. lol. We were going to innoculate the media today and go to sushi at 1. Didn't quite happen like that... lol. Oh well.

But ya.

Gonna keep this chain going. lol.

Jesus Loves Me This I Know

Yo guys. Can I just say how awesome it is to know that no matter what happens, no matter what the future holds, that I can trust God with it? No matter what struggles we go through we know Christ was tempted far beyond us in every way and still would rather die for the sins of the world than die to sin? That even if we lose house and home, family and friends, belongings and even our lives for the sake of the gospel and Jesus' name we know we are satisfied in Him, and that He supplies even more than we can ask for or imagine?

That is just how I am feeling now. Like, just I know Nothing in All of creation. Nothing. at. All. can separate us from the love of God. Nothing. And that more than that, He is with us always from the moment we ask Him to come into our lives til the end of eternity.

If anything is astonishing, it's the gospel. That God would send His very Son to die for the sake of those who had voluntarily gone astray. Instead of wiping us off the face of the earth, He would have mercy on us and give us grace. That instead of the death we deserved. Death. He would die for us, to give us life, life abundant, new life, eternal life.

Yo. And the fact that He has made us in His image, that every single thing He has brought into our lives, no matter how messy or shameful it may be, He can still redeem any and everything in it for His glory and for His purposes. Everything.

Oh my God, you are just amazing and more than I could every hope to explain by words. Lord you are truly loving, just, and there for us in every circumstance. Lord, take every part of our lives and just use it for your glory. Let not any part of our hearts be filled with anything besides thee and thee alone. Father, discipline us in love and teach us each day more of the great things you have done for us and your faithfulness that in everything your plans are best.

What can I say, what can I do, but offer this life completely to you, oh God?

Work Makes You Tired (GHT13 Day 6)

Feb 21 ~ 9PM

Today was ok. I kinda felt a bit distant from God. I don't really know why, but ya.

Work was really good. We were doing concrete again. Which at first thought is pretty bad, but it was awesome. 94lb cement bags, whatever. lol. We worked really well and got it done by lunch.

I've been trying to get good video of all our major jobs. I just really need a video of the girls sorting rice. That takes so much effort and it is so appreciated, but was only described as "helping in the kitchen" which does not describe much.

After we did more painting. I got to talk a bit with the guy from the other day. He's a cool guy.

Chasing lizards and petting puppies is pretty fun. lol.

Tonight we like played charades with the kids. I was so tired. lol.

So ya, tomorrow I've got to lead morning devo tomorrow. Should be good, but I don't know what I will do. lol

Gonna sleep. Last day tomorrow.

Time to Talk (GHT13 Day 5)

Feb 20 ~ 9:00PM

Yo, today was interesting. First we woke up and had breakfast. Today they continued jackhammering the old pool, but I had no idea how I could help so I went painting again. The chocolate paint worked well. I ran into a guy who thought he knew me and definitely knew SB.

After lunch I got to turn steel rods into steel nails with a rock and a hammer and continued painting. We got  alot done.

I got my hair done. Lol. Cornrows finally. I hope they last. lol.

Tonight we had a singing time with the kids and I got to play guitar and sing worship team. [we had really no practice. JW and I, as well as MC chose the songs the night before and she transcribed the lyrics / chords onto paper while I was getting cornrows. We practiced for like 4 minutes before... lol. keys were pretty bad for me so when JC wa holding the mic for me, I pushed it at her. lol. 'You sing'. haha. JC didn't like that. lol.] It was pretty funny, but good. After I got to pray for one of the guys. I actually think today went really fast. Still really glad to be here and work together with everyone.

I got to talk with one of the guys about one of the things I've been needing to think and pray about, so it's good. I think this just confirms things.

Only two days left. I need to figure out what God wants to teach me here.

Does God Procrastinate?

So, I was having these thoughts yesterday.

As much as I procrastinate there is one thing I am very much committed to; I will not lose marks because of handing something in late. This is by far the easiest marks to not lose. No matter what you hand in, if you hand it in late you lose marks. So, ya, pretty standard idea, eh? like Handing in something at an 85% level the day of is way better than handing in something a day late at 10% deduction, meaning to get higher you'd need something worth 95% or higher.

So ya, even though I push it very much to the last second, I will not hand it in late.

But wait, God is never 'late' or 'slow' as we understand these words. It's all in His time. But, does that mean God is a procrastinator?

Absolutely not. God doesn't sit there and say 'oh, I can do this later' or 'how much longer can I not do this?' and He definitely doesn't complain 'I don't wanna do this assignment' or anything like that. He just knows what time is best for things to happen and ultimately it is for the good of all, not just one or two people, but all who would come to Him.

Open My Eyes (GHT13 Day 4)

Feb 19 ~8:45PM

Yo, today has been pretty awesome.

Yesterday was pretty tough, but today I got to work on the guest house, painting and cement finishing. Mostly in the shade and it was a little less intense physically. So it was good.

BG was sick all day which sucks, but I'm sure God had a plan for that.

This afternoon we continued on the guest house, but I ended early. Gotto go to the houses of 4 of the workers to meet their families, pray for them, give them a care package and encourage them. It was awesome. They kinda live far away, but to see this family dynamic, their joy in the tough times, and their faith was pure joy. We got to experience their generosity, got to worship with them, and got to see God's love in their families. I just wanted to give grandma a big hug and pray for how God has been faithful to her in blessing her family and being with them.

Devos was awesome. God really spoke to me and I reconstructed that lesson. I hope it was really what someone needed.

Ya. Only Tuesday. So great. Been taking some videos of what we did and everything to show when I get back.

Still so surreal, but today was awesome.

To Those Who Overcome

Yo. So today was a little lame, but then it was pretty cool.

I woke up late and had a lab report due today. Bad combo as always. So, kinda skip breakfast, go to school, work on it until and during class and an hour after to get it done so I could chill with MT. It was really good. I really needed to sit and just talk about God's goodness for a while. lol. I mean it's not all easy, it's not all fun, but I know God is doing great things through this time and greater things in the times to come. It was short, but as good time to reflect a bit too.

Lab time came. Apparently you lose 20% per day (or 0.8% per hour) for handing it in late! That's heavy! I'm really glad that I have resolved to not lose late marks if I can avoid it. I think the only time I actually knew I wasn't going to be done on time my lab coordinator just said 'get it in before the end of the lab period' which gave me like 2 more hours to do it. But ya, that's mad. lol. The guys across the bench from me know I go to a Chinese church now. lol. My lab partner has been really in the word lately. It's really encouraging. He's definitely not all there yet, but it's definitely not by anything that I have done to get him here. I'll just text him 'Hey what's up?' and he'll reply "hey! I haven't been to church lately, but I've been reading the Bible! =D" lol.

After the lab we went for Pho. Like during the lab period. Pretty funny. Next week we're gonna hand in our labs then go for sushi for lunch. AN asked me where I had been in the world and actually, every other country I have been to I have been to on a missions trip, which is pretty cool. I kinda hope it stays that way. Not that it's always a missions trip, but that I'm always on mission. Like, wherever I go I always bring the gospel with me.

But ya. lol. Probably should do some more work so I can go to prayer meeting and not freak out tomorrow about my prelab. lol.

Ttyl.

D.Fa

PS. Read this.
This one is great too.

Someday Soon

"In the day of the Lord's anger
no one escaped or survived;
those I cared for and reared,
my enemy has destroyed."

Lam 2:22b

Yo. That's a pretty serious verse. I really hope I never have to say that.

All my friends, my family, my classmates, maybe a future family. "those I cared for and reared." All destroyed. And that's where they are headed.

"In the day of the Lord's anger no one escaped or survived". That is fully deserved. None of us lives up to perfection's standards. We can say 'Oh, but I was better than that guy.' or 'I wasn't that bad', but both are just comparing to others. If God had a bell curve for how we are doing, morally, ethically, the effort we put in, what would be the cut-off percentile? 95th percentile? 99th? What about the others? It's completely not fair to judge on a bell curve when it comes down to life or destruction. So what standard is it?

I don't mean to offend, but the standard is perfection. I don't live up to it. You don't live up to it. We each have flaws, ways we have decided to seek our own good before the good of others, ways we have not lived up to even our own standards. So how can we live as if judgment is never going to come? How can we live each day passing by these people and knowing what is coming?

How can we not tell them about the only way to avoid destrcution?
How can we not share our salvation with them, not that it is really ours to give, but a privilege that we can do so?

If we trust in what Jesus has done at the cross; in what He did to take our destruction and punishment upon Himself, that is where we find life. He said that He came not to condemn, but bring life. If we don't receive His forgiveness we stand condemned already with everyone else.

It isn't because we don't accept Jesus that we are condemned, but because of our condemnation and God's love for us, Jesus came to give us a way out.

So, how can I not tell my classmates? How can I not tell my friends? Is it not easier to just bring up God's love into a conversation while there is still time, rather than the guilt of not doing so before our paths diverge?

I don't want to see my friends and family be destroyed. I want them to see real life. I want them to see God. I want them to. I pray that they will someday. Someday soon.

Rev 22:12 "Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done."

Unless we have Jesus' forgiveness, we are going to receive for what we have done.

Sing His Praises (GHT13 Day 3)

Feb 18 ~5PM

Apart from me you can do nothing.

Do you know how humbling it is when you truly experience it>

Today we got to work. I was assit=sting with the cement mixer. We had a slab of cement to fill in so we got to it. I don't know what I was expecting, but it definitely wasn't that. 3 Buckets of gravel, 5 Buckets of dirt, 2 Buckets of water, and 1.5 bags of cement (150 lbs) for each load of cement poured. [These aren't like colourful beach pail buckets, but like legit 60 lbs buckets or more.] Probably about 120 bags of cement used today. It was a lot of work, and a lot of sun. I got more and more exhausted and more and more affected by the sun to the point where I couldn't do anything. Shoveling, slow and painful; lifting buckets, not even close; just nothing. I had to go sit down for extended breaks and got sent away a couple times.

Just around 3 I got sent to my room for shower and no more work to be done today.

I had / still have part of a really bad headache. Like, my head is exploding, but how can we share Christ with the workers if I can't even work with them?

Now we are playing with the kids. Paper hat decorating quickly regressed into airplane time, but it's still good.

Working in the kitchen is not easy. Gotta sort grains of rice.

If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit.

Gotta focus on His goals not mine; trust in His plans, not mine; be open to His leading; and really just pray all the time.

I really hope tomorrow is better.

Brotherly Love

God has a real sense of humour.

The things I joke about turn out to be real.
He uses me to help others with relationship issues.
When I'm at the end of my rope that is when He speaks most clearly to me.
When I see nothing happening, He has actually been doing a whole lot.
When I have work to do is when ministry is the most fruitful.

But anyways, this weekend was the YA retreat and an older couple that joined our English congregation this year was the speaker(s). They shared all about yeilding to God's will with the story of Joseph in Genesis, as well as a million stories of God in their lives. Pretty darn encouraging. There was a real openness among the YA, especially about the topic of purity, which nearly everyone read the 100 page book that was circulating. lol.

But ya, back to work today I guess. Not really excited about work. lol. I definitely spent a lot of time not working today, but it was good. I got to hang out with friends a bit, spend a good half hour in quiet time, and got to talk with a brother for about '5 minutes'. lol. But then I felt like I got a good amount of work done.

Anyways, Rev 3:7-13.

Psalm 118:26 (GHT13 Day 2)

Yo, today was pretty long. lol. I woke up to a rooster around 5am. shower. Then I got to explore the complex a bit. The water is just on the other side of the fence. So I spent some time in the Word. Breakfast wasn't until 8am toaday.

It was simple, but a good breakfast. After we went to the church and it was mainly in Creole. I don't think I was expecting to be fully accommodating for us, but I thought we'd be understanding more. During the first part there were some scriptures read. I think they were reading Psalm 118. Either way, I did and verse 26 kinda sums up today for me. I felt really welcomed.

There was a lot of worship, pretty charismatic. But this one kid, future worship leader, really made us smile. He was so into the worship, even though he wasn't singing. He was just clapping with all his soul. Worship is way more than just singing. It was kinda a long service, but there was gospel and there was joy + hope + love. So it was pretty sweet.

Creole is actually a lot of French, so I can actually understand quite a  bit oddly. lol.

After a really great lunch we went to the beach. It was about an hour's drive away and I was just sheer terror the whole time sitting on the tailgate while also holding a kid's hand.

Haiti is really beautiful. I kinda made a coral xylophone. lol. I was a bit distracted by some stuff, so I didn't go swimming.

Just got here. Only a wek left. Crazy.

Gotta pray. Goodnight.

1 Thes 5:18

Yo, so, I've got a mega lab due Saturday at 11:59, but I am leaving Ottawa for a YA retreat at 8:15pm tomorrow and don't intend on driving back to Ottawa to email it to my prof... and I've got a midterm tomorrow at 6pm... So, it's like it's due tomorrow at 6? So I gotta finish this.

For your enjoyment I will put up one of the Haiti blogs. First day of work I think. lol. Nope. Sunday. Church in Haiti!

But ya. I think today I have really been complaining way too much. Kinda make me actually apply what I have been learning in Haiti from the believers. They do not have that much, as far as the world is concerned, but they are so rich in Spirit, so rich in grace, so rich in joy and love. They are thankful for absolutely everything God has given them. I drove to school today and was so upset at a puddle that I was swearing. There's something up here. I get to drive to the University I get the priveledge to attend in Canada where I also have an apartment and a laptop and all this stuff that I don't even use. And I'm mad at the weather? >.<

I complain too much.

Prayers (GHT13 Day 1 Part 2)

Feb 16 ~8PM --> 10:30PM

Yo, so today was a lot of travelling. Short spurts of travelling. Lots of sleeping while travelling, sleeping in the van, plane, plane, bus. Everywhere. lol.

We got to New York and met a few others coming with us, but not MC. She and the Calgary team had already gone to Haiti. So it was a pretty boring flight to Haiti. First the radio needed to be replaced and the wings needed deicing. But then it was mainly sleeping and talking about pokémon for a few hours.

Oh! Prayers answered about the snow in New York! There was none / we got there early. It was a pretty small plane from Montreal.

Got to Haiti, so surreal. Couldn't really believe it. But it reminded me of Project so much: the heat; the sun; the smell; the mountains; everything. So good! Why can't I just always be on Project?

But why am I here exactly? I mean, I'm really glad I got the others here, and I'm sure that I'll be able to share about other project experiences and getting to know the other guys, maybe step up in leadership a bit? But ya, I've got a couple things to keep praying about during this trip.

I really can't believe this sudden transition. I really pray that God speaks powerfully and reveals His will for me.

Labs and a Dachshund

Yo.

Another day in Canada, another day not really wanting to be. haha...

I woke up at 5:30 again to work on a lab report. Kinda skipped biochem to work on it. Finished early (like 25 minutes before it was due), but it seemed pretty legit for once. lol. Lab went pretty well.

I went to my parents' for dinner / I got to tell them a bit about Haiti. Then I got groceries and got to tell the cashier about Haiti / that I don't work there anymore. lol. Drive home. Procrastinate...

Got a lab due tomorrow. lol.

Ready for Take-Off! (GHT13 Day 1)

Feb 16 5:24AM

Yo, so it's been a while since my last b-log. The last couple days have been pretty crazy. Lab reports and minor stress from other stuff, but it's all working out. I got a couple extensions on my formal reports and I got a bt of work done. My NSERC application got in yesterday morning, so I really hope that works out.

The rest of yesterday was a bit of work, but mainly not. At 6PM we went to the res caf for dinner together and then we went to NE's  floor for games, fun times, and final packing of our bags to include all of the donations from OCBC. We actually didn't end up using an extra bag. I thought we would. lol.

King Mau is an awesome game. Just saying.

But ya, we also watched 'Courageous'. It was good. Longer than I expected. A little cheesy, but a really good movie about being a good dad.

It's really surreal that we are going to Haiti. Like really, we got in the shuttle, fell asleep, and had to go through customs. I got the body scan.

Yep, so, I'm really encouraged right now. I'm writing this in a notebook that has anonymous encourage notes from my teammates on project. Honestly I wasn't doing too well yesterday morning, but God has really been just encouraging and showing His faithfulness.

Can't wait for Haiti!

Poured Out

You know what?

Today kinda sucked.

I really don't want to be back here. Sitting in class for hours doing nothing. Wasting time commuting back and forth. Wearing a coat, a sweater, pants. Alarm clocks. Clocks. A busy schedule. Sitting in front of a screen.

This all seems so much less important than working hard. Always in your workplace. Wearing the bare minimum + a layer of bug spray. Waking up when the roosters do. Going at the pace of the things around me. Nothing planned, but amazing things happening. Always in real life.

But I've had to remind myself all day that there is a reason I am back. Even though this may not sem important now, there's something here too. Bigger picture I could change people's eternity by being here. Painting a house isn't that important. I have so much to be thankful for, especially for even being able to know God and have Him in my life always.

Gotta be sacrificially living too. When we are given much, we've got to be ready at all times to give as Christ did and was poured out for our laziness; poured out for our selfishness; poured out for our short-sightedness; poured out for our lack of trust in His plans.

And seeing this love, can I not suck it up for another month and trust  in Him to get me through this and all for His name's sake?gotta be something here.

Sunny Days

Yo, so, I just got back from Haiti today. Kinda a long story, so you'll likely be hearing about it for a while. I wrote down about a page each day about what was happening, but I guess today will be a bit of a summary.

So, we were working alongside a church / orphanage in Haiti. We were a team of like 15 students from mainly Ontario and were working alongside a team of 4 from Germany who are there all year. During the day we did a lot of work on site, but in the afternoon we got to hag out with the kids, go on family visits, or other special activities. There was a lot of great stuff, but God really humbled me. There was nothing I could do apart from Him and my weaknesses were really used by Him for greater things. Our team was really unified and it was great to see such love for one another grown in such a short time.

It's crazy that it's over.

Today was weird. Wore swim shorts and a t-shirt all day, even back in Ottawa. lol

This is Why I am in Plant Biochemistry

WOW!

So, I'm 'doing homework' by watching the suggested viewing material for my plants class.

Go here --> http://plantsinmotion.bio.indiana.edu/plantmotion/starthere.html
Click on everything!

Plants are amazing! I had no idea they 'dance' so much or that vines fling themselves around like that.

OR

That the passion flower was named after the Passion of Christ. I was just watching it flower and I was like WHOA! That's a crazy flower! Then I read this:

How the passion flower got its name.
When Christian missionaries arrived in South America in the 16th century, they found a plant which they felt was a good omen for their mission. They called it the passion flower because to them it symbolized the death of Christ. The five sepals and five petals of the flower, which are similar in appearance, represent the disciples without Peter and Judas. The double row of colored filaments, known as the corona, signifies the halo around Christ's head or the crown of thorns. The five stamens and the three spreading styles with their flattened heads symbolize the wounds and the nails respectively. The vines tendrils resemble the whips used to scourge Christ.

Passion flowers grow wild in the southern part of the United States and in South America. In the southern USA, it is also commonly known as the maypop, the wild apricot and the ocoee. The last is the Indian name that has also been applied to the Ocoee River and valley.

A Very Real Feel

I don't get this very often, but a couple days ago, I felt it; 100% unworthy of approaching God in prayer.

By what can I, one who is so self centered, one who trusts in himself and yet fails so often, one who forgets to bring his worries to God and one who has done so much against Him, by what means can I come before the One, the holy, the righteous, the eternal, sovereign, unchanging, creator of the Universe?

By the blood of Christ.

There is no other way. There is nothing I could do to atone. There is nothing I could do to redeem. There is nothing I could do to fix my own brokenness. The only thing I can do is give everything back to Him and trust in Him as the solid rock on which to build my life into the life He wants for me.

Only in Him.

So, it's awesome that even in those places we can come before Him, as if we were holy and blameless because Christ has made us so if we trust in Him.

Fifty Degrees of Difference

Ya, so today I was thinking a little bit about the differences that a single week can make. Yesterday night we were having a 'snowball fight' if you could call it that. It was not packing snow, so we needed to like compress the snow for a good minute before throwing it only to see most of it disintegrate... but ya. It was really awesomely cool how God does things and I got to see KC(?) again, like three times in a week and got to talk a little about what he believes, then throw snow at each other. lol. But ya, it was cold. But a week from now in Haiti it is not gonna be cold. lol. And so I thought of some things that will / will not be different in a week's time.

Things I won't be doing in a week:

-Shovelling snow off the car
-Practicing Mandarin songs for Chinese New Year
-Helping three guys with the license plate 'Syrian' out of the snow banks
-Lab report writing
-Cramming for a plants midterm
-Applying for co-op jobs
-Wearing a coat
-Eating Mini-Wheats with Chocolate milk for breakfast at 9am
-Emailing / facebooking / electronic blogging
-Be able to be alone for hours

But I still will be doing in a week:

-Taking Malaria pills
-Wearing a hat
-Be playing crazy cards games with my sisters
-Praying for God to do great works trough us

Things I will get to do for the first time:

-Help build a building
-Not be in Canada during spring break
-See MC in person for the first time in nearly two years

Y.O.G.O.

Lord,
what would it mean to truly surrender my life to you?
what would it mean to deny myself daily as I follow after you?
what would it mean to give up my plans and my goals and my dreams to seek your will in my life?

Can I even call you Lord when I pretend to be in charge of my life?

Teacher,
what would it mean to learn from you all I need to know?
what would it mean to truly listen to your Spirit's guiding and leading in my life?
what would it mean for your teachings to be taught through me to those you'd have me teach?

Can I even call you teacher when I try to learn on my own?

Father,
what would it mean to come before you as a child?
what would it mean to truly rely upon your strength and love as only you can provide?
what would it mean to fully understand the depth of love and pain poured out and endured to adopt me into your family?

Can I call you my Daddy?

---

When I seek what I want for myself, my future, my glory, my life,
when I seek what I want for myself,
when I seek what I want,
when I seek what I,
when I

but You,
but You gave,
but You gave Your only Son,
but You gave Your only Son so that all would You'd draw to Yourself,
that they may know You and truly live.

You have seen me.
You have loved me.
You have called me.
You have saved me.
You have a future prepared for me.

I want to be able to say "where you lead me, I will follow", honestly I do. I have seen you do so much in my life, if you are calling, can I follow?

Father, take my hand and lead me. Show me the path laid out for me.
Teacher, impress in me your wisdom and knowledge. That which has been understood since creation.
Lord, consecrate me wholly to You. Even through the most dangerous path, may I trust You and give You all I can.

Cramming is in no way a good idea. Just Crazy

I don't know what to do with the next 15 minutes. I guess that means I get to chill with you guys. xP

But seriously, this week is crazy. This next week, crazier.

I'm really excited to be able to go to Haiti over reading week! Like, really excited! It's going to be amazing! But also, there's kinda another side to this story that I seem to have been forgetting about. In University, sometimes your professors see that week break and determine you have time to do formal lab reports and do independent research and studies on your free time, so they assign more.

Ya right I have more time. >.<

So that means this next week I will have a lot of work to do before I go. I actually think I may just stop living my life for a couple days so I can just get the work done. lol.... Not really excited about that. I also have had no time to study for my midterms, so I really deserved to get bad marks on them.

I walked out of my midterm on Friday not caring at all what mark I got. Like there was a lot of guessing and filling in the blanks based on conceptual logic, rather than actual knowledge. I was assuming a pretty low mark. But two of the three midterms would be dropped (or so I heard) so I walked out not thinking about it at all anymore and just went to go meet up and go see the fireworks with P2C people. Seems like I did pretty well.

Yesterday I also had a midterm. This one required a lot of studying. I didn't really get to it until like Monday night. It's kinda a a lot of stuff from a bunch of classes I have already taken, but he goes into a lot of detail and expects us to regurgitate the details. So, I was pretty doomed. Went to school early to read the last half of the notes for the classes I hadn't gone to (as far as paying attention goes) and a couple of my friends from the labs came by and crammed with me and pointed out that a lot of questions from the reviews will be on the midterm. So, with half an hour until the midterm I opened the first of 8, 7-page review question documents (with solutions) and ya. A LOT of the questions were on the midterm word for word.

But ya. On Monday I found out I have a midterm next Tuesday... Gotta study for that one too.....

But, like, God's grace in these tests. So good. I really need to learn to study better though.

I hope you guys are doing well in this respect.

Study well,

D.Fa

3.2.13

What's this I hear?

So sometimes I hear something that is outrageous and doesn't make sense.

The other day my friend AS said that if I say "ee", there could be someone else who could say "eh" in such a way that the numerical values possible for describing the sounds could be identical, but that our brains perceive them differently. That there's nothing different with them as can be measured right now. I was like "no way! There must be something we aren't measuring here!" But the linguistic physicists don't know.

For months now girls have been telling me "your hair is going to stop growing at some point unless you cut it" and I'm like "that makes no sense. The hair is only alive at the follicle. Cutting the ends won't make it grow more." But finally the other day it was explained to me better. My new understanding is that your hair cuts itself when it gets to a certain length! It's like our hair was meant to be that length! Self-cutting homeostatic hair! Wow! In a much more rudimentary language the ends of your hair split and a little bit falls off. This reaches a certain dynamic equilibrium, unless you cut the split off and treat your hair better. Hmmm. That's cheating. lol.

Ummmm, a bunch of my friends are being accepted on Project!! This is really exciting!! But what is weird to me is that they didn't get their references in until like just this week. When I was applying and got my references in just before the deadline, I didn't hear back until like Valentine's day! >.< So early. i guess earlier is better. haha.

Did not get much done today... Gotta study tomorrow and do lab reports and apply for co-op jobs. . .

>.<
